GUTS

About the film

GUTS is a film about raw meat, raw emotion and refusing to know when to quit.

It started with my dad. He’s in his seventies, has had a knee replacement, a hip replacement and a ruptured achilles, and spends much of his life caring for my disabled mum. But twice a week, he takes his dogs to agility training.

I wanted to make a film about that part of his life β€” partly because at first glance dog agility is just highly competitive people screaming at dogs on seesaws. But to those involved, this is Dog Wimbledon. I find his and others absolute dedication to it strangely obsessive, but I also began to realise how important it is to him. It gives him purpose, independence and a world of his own.
